THE deadly tiger mosquito has been recorded in Andalucia for the first ever time.

The presence of the mosquito – which carries potentially fatal diseases such as chikungunya and dengue fever – was recorded via a new mobile app which tracks Spain’s mosquito population.

Reports of tiger mosquitoes surfaced in the north of Spain last year, but now it appears they have migrated south.

The mobile app Tigatrapp was launched in June to record and monitor tiger mosquitoes in Spain with the participation of entomologists from across the nation.

Over 6,000 people have already downloaded the research-based app.
