THE citizens of Mijas clubbed together to plant 600 trees as part of the largest reforestation project in the town’s history.
The mountain landscape was destroyed by forest fires in 2011 and 2012 and since October Mijas Town Hall have been orchestrating the replanting of 30,000 trees.
Mijas residents planted 400 seedlings of oak, 100 buckthorn and many others, that were grown in the town’s nursery, in the Finca La Caramba area.
A local resident offered his tools for digging the holes and Mijeña mayor Silvia Marin praised the efforts and the spirit of the community.
“It was an initiative that has come from the local people, more and more associations will want to perform this type of action,” he said.
