QUEEN Sofia was firmly backing environmental issues as she got behind the wheel of a ‘green’ car. She took the Peugeot iON for a spin while on the annual family holiday in Mallorca, and gave it the royal thumbs-up, calling it “phenomenal”.
The Spanish government is no doubt keeping its fingers crossed that this will boost sales of the electric car. So far only 16 have been sold in Spain, falling short of the 2,000 green cars it had hoped to get on the road by the end of the year.
The prototype of the zero-emission Peugeot iON was given to the Spanish Queen for use on her jollies at the Marivent palace, but will not be on the market until December.
