HUGE: Aligator Gars are native to the Americas

The creature, called an Alligator Gar, was found in the artificial lake in La Represa park in Marbella.

Experts are baffled at how the creature, which feasts on turtles, frogs and ducks, got into the lake.

The species is one of the largest aquatic animals that can be found in fresh and shallow waters.

Environment and Health services believe it may have been placed in the pond by someone who brought it from America before it had developed.

The town hall said the species is highly invasive, and they would have had no option but to kill it, but luckily the Bioparc in Fuengirola has given it a new home in its aquarium.

Authorities were only alerted to the beast by a chance photo taken at the lake on Saturday which went viral on social media.
