THE hottest May in recent memory has left Andalucia’s crops gasping for rain.

With only 1.7cm of rain – compared to the May average of 6.1cm – last month was not only the hottest for 68 years but also the driest.

Meteorologists at AEMET are now issuing a warning to Spanish farmers as they predict more of the same for the months ahead.

After recording the hottest May day since 1869 in Valencia, meteorological experts are expecting more records to be smashed this summer.
