PLANS to keep Andalucia’s agricultural development leading the pack in Spain are to be unveiled.

The region currently contributes 54% of the country’s total organic industry, with more than 9,931 farmers and 800,000 hectares of land devoted to crop harvests.

A six-year plan for Andalucia’s agricultural development is set to be presented to the region’s committee for organic production before the end of the year.

Andalucia’s General Director for Quality and Organic Production, Ana Romero, praised the region’s organic development, which has received more than €300 million of outside investment over the past five years.

She said: “These figures are the result of the efforts of many men and women, with support from the regional government.

“This is an important sector both in the present and future, as well as its potential to increase exports and generate employment in rural areas.”
