DROSOPHILA SUZUKII: Commonly known as a vinegar fly, is native to Asia

AN invasive fruit fly spreading throughout Spain could cause ‘a major agricultural epidemic’, experts have warned.

The pest, most commonly known as a vinegar fly, is native to Asia but has spread throughout parts of Europe and even the US in recent years.

Drosophila Suzukii has caused ‘major damage’ to different fruit trees, in particular cherries.

Low quality fruit should be thrown out and infected fruit should be stored below three degrees to kill the eggs and larvae.
