CO2 EMISSIONS: Most are attributed to traffic and electric consumption

TWO small towns are among the ten most polluting in Andalucia.

Alcala de Guadaira, near Sevilla, and San Roque, in Cadiz, are among the worst culprits, due largely to heavy industry. In ninth place, Alcala emits 727,896 tons of CO2 a year, while in tenth San Roque emits 692,000 tons.

The worst polluters are the main cities, with Sevilla (2,919,668 tons) just pipping Malaga with 2,254,427 tons. The top ten are responsible for emitting 28 per cent of the region’s CO 2, according to the recent study.

In terms of CO2 emitted from rubbish disposal, Chiclana and Torremolinos are two of the worst offenders.

Most of these CO2 emissions are attributed to traffic and electric consumption.

Andalucia has now committed itself to a 20 per cent reduction in emissions by 2020.
