THE Junta of Castilla-La Mancha is taking a stand against nuclear waste.
Following the Nuclear Council of Spain’s approval for a nuclear waste dump in the town of Villar de Canas, the Junta successfully blocked the project by announcing their intention to extend a nearby nature preserve into the designated area.
The size of the nature park and bird reserve will increase from 1,000 hectares to 25,000 hectares.
The council argued that the nuclear plans must be rethought to take into account the geological environment and natural processes of the area.
