GRAB your binoculars and head to the hills because a new conservation centre has opened in the Sierra de las Nieves natural park.
‘Hide Sierra de las Nieves’ aims to nurture vultures struggling to find food while also promoting environmentally-friendly tourism.
Various feeding and nesting stations have been installed throughout the national park for the Sierra’s avian population.
The food provided consists of both road-kill and carcasses from the area, as well as the unusable parts of animals slaughtered for human consumption.
“The animal carcasses would otherwise be burned, or they can be eaten by the vultures, which creates less contamination and helps support the population,” conservationist Inmaculada Garcia told the Green Guide Spain.
Garcia’s husband Juan Manuel Garcia Badilla, from Ronda, is the man behind the project, backed with the support of the park’s management.
