DOLPHIN and whale numbers are to be recorded as part of an extensive wildlife survey in the Gulf of Cadiz.

The €350,000 project will study the distribution of cetaceans – marine mammals – and sea birds, and examine the effects of the fishing industry on their population.

The survey, taking place in three phases throughout 2012, has so far recorded a number of species including killer whales and bottlenose dolphins.
